Dear Subscribers,

I hope you had an excellent weekend.

I'm offering a free, six week guitar course from May 7 to June 25.  Each Wednesday at 2pm, I'll teach the students who come to my office.  All they need is a guitar!  Please pray for this endeavor because we want to bless the nearby community.

The National Day of Prayer is Thursday, May 1.  Please spend some time in personal and corporate prayer.  We will be praying for our family, our country, and our ministries.

Welcome to the new readers of this message!  Here is your Devotion, some Cool Facts, A Moment of Introspection, JCSM's Challenge, the Word of the Week, a faith-builder from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained," and the Quotes of the Week.  Have a fantastic week and God bless you!

Love in Christ,

Jason Gastrich, Ph.D.

"My Meditations On Meditating"

Joshua 1:8, 9  "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it.  For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.  Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."

Psalm 4:4  "Be angry, and do not sin.  Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still.  Selah."

Psalm 63:6  "When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches."

Psalm 77:12  "I will also meditate on all Your work, And talk of Your deeds."

Psalm 143:5  "I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Your works; I muse on the work of Your hands."

Psalm 145:5  "I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, And on Your wondrous works."

Philippians 4:8, 9  "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.  The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you."

Insight: Christians are called to meditate often on God and life.  Most Christians talk to God a tiny bit and avoid the rest.  Take time to talk to God, listen to God, and meditate on many different things as often as you can.

Prayer: "Dear Lord, bless us and make us like You.  You are holy and pure and we need what You have.  Thank you for giving us the command to meditate.  Help us to do it and help us to avoid being lazy or preoccupied.  Thank you for the awesome benefits of meditation.  Praise You for knowing what is best for us!  Help us to sit at your feet and worship You.  In Jesus' name, Amen."

Cool Facts

On February 12, 1937, a patent was granted for a synthetic fiber called nylon. Research chemist Wallace Carothers from DuPont corporation first made this useful polymer. Nylon is found today in clothing, strings for tennis rackets, bristles for toothbrushes, surgical sutures, and in thousands of other products. Nylon is made using the simple materials coal, water, and air. The Creator has built a host of such useful products into nature, many of which still await discovery. Incidentally, spider webs are stronger than nylon fibers or even steel fibers of the same size. Spiders seem to perform this feat using just two raw materials, water and air, in spinning their silk strands.

This excerpt was taken from Donald DeYoung's book called, "365 Fascinating Facts From the World of Discovery."

A Moment of Introspection

When is the last time you meditated on the person of Jesus Christ, on His creation, and on the people and situations in your life?

JCSM's Challenge

Take some time to meditate today!  Stop what you're doing and consider God and the things He brings into your mind.  Try to see them through a biblical lens and seek God's direction.  Be sure to have a paper and pen (or computer) handy, so you can write or type what He tells you!

God bless you as you meet this week's challenge!

Word of the Week

hawgaw (Hebrew, see Psalm 143:5): to murmur (in pleasure or in anger); by implication to ponder: imagine, meditate, mourn, mutter, roar, speak, study, talk, utter

The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims:

Exodus 38:26 - Seventy people (Gen.46:27, Ex.1:5) became several million in just a few generations (Ex.6:18, 20, Ex.7:7).

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" responds:

There was plenty of time between the end of Genesis and the end of Exodus for this many people to be present.

(This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained", by Dr. Jason Gastrich.  This book is on CD and gives over 4,000 answers to alleged Bible errors, regarding the entire Bible at http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org.  There is also a 300 question workbook that accompanies the CD-ROM.)

Quotes of the Week

I don't pray enough to figure that out.

When you have your quiet time, memorize scripture.

The best way to know God is to know His Word.

God likely has a bigger vision for your life and ministry than you do.

Be determined to love the unlovable people in your life.

These quotes came from the Holy Spirit, Howard Everett, and Jason Gastrich.  If you'd like to read more wise quotes, you can either visit our Quotations Archive or get a copy of Dr. Gastrich's book called, "10,000 Wise Quotes and Spiritual Sayings"!  It's the largest collection of Bible-based quotations in the world.
