JCSM's Weekly Devotions (click here to listen!) Psalm 33:8-11 "Let all the earth fear the LORD; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations." Psalm 119:161-165 "Princes persecute me without a cause, But my heart stands in awe of Your word. I rejoice at Your word as one who finds great treasure. I hate and abhor lying, but I love Your law. Seven times a day I praise You, Because of Your righteous judgments. Great peace have those who love Your law, And nothing causes them to stumble." Ephesians 1:3-6 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved." John 9:25 "He answered and said, 'Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.'" Romans 8:38, 39 "For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." 1 Corinthians 9:24, 25 "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown." Insight: New believers stand in awe of God's love. They understand how they are loved immensely and owe everything to their Creator. Remember how you once stood in awe of God's love and get back to that place. Prayer: "Dear Lord, thank you for your love. There is no other like You. Help us to see You as You truly are. Help us to love others like You love us, Lord. Bless us and make us like You. Praise You for your saving power. Thank you for saving us and putting our feet on a Rock. Remind us of the way we once felt and help us to feel that way again. In Jesus' name, Amen."
On January 13, 1929, The American Humanist Society was established today in Hollywood, California. Its stated goal was to “humanize religion, disseminate science, stimulate thought, and promote good will.” Unfortunately the group has vigorously opposed conservative Christianity and creation in particular, betraying its original purpose. A true humanist in the positive sense is one concerned with the freedom and welfare of others. This excerpt was taken from Donald DeYoung's book called, "365 Fascinating Facts From the World of Discovery."
Nails didn't keep Jesus Christ on the cross. His love for every human being kept Him there.
Reflect on God's love. Think about its depths. Remember your sins and how God reached down and saved You. Give Him thanks for who He is and what He has done. God bless you as you meet this week's challenge!
agapeo (Greek, see Romans 8:39): love, affection, benevolence, a love feast, charity
The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims: Exodus 31:17 - God was tired after making heaven and earth. so he had to take a day off to rest up. But Is.40:28 says that God never tires. "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" responds: This passage never says that God tired or was weakened after creating all things. This passage says that God rested on the seventh day. God set an example for humans to follow; working for six days and resting for one day. Incidentally, Jesus gave us an example of how to pray; even though He did not need to pray. (This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained", by Dr. Jason Gastrich. This book is on CD and gives over 4,000 answers to alleged Bible errors, regarding the entire Bible at http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org. There is also a 300 question workbook that accompanies the CD-ROM.)
There are no new quotes this week. However, if you you're interested in wise quotes, you'll want a copy of Dr. Gastrich's book called, "10,000 Wise Quotes and Spiritual Sayings"! It's the largest collection of Bible-based quotations in the world.
