Hello!

I hope you had a super weekend.

On Saturday, my wife and I attended the Worldviews 2007 Bible Conference.  It was a great event where we heard some gifted speakers and a spirited debate.  My notes from the conference will be sent to you on Wednesday.

I'm planning a debate with a Biola graduate who denies Christ's deity.  He rejects the trinity and wants to have a formal, public debate with me.  This debate will take place in Gene Cook's recording studio and the debate will be made public shortly afterwards.  Please pray for me, Dan Mages (my opponent), and all who will listen.

Welcome to the new readers of this message!  Here is your Devotion, A Moment of Introspection, JCSM's Challenge, the Word of the Week, a faith-builder from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained," and the Quotes of the Week.  Have a fantastic week and God bless you!

Love in Christ,

Jason Gastrich, Ph.D.

"The Television Generation"

Philippians 4:8, 9  "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.  The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you."

1 Corinthians 6:19, 20  "Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?  For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."

Proverb 19:15  "Laziness casts one into a deep sleep, And an idle person will suffer hunger."

Ephesians 5:15, 16  "See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil."

Insight: Use your time wisely and glorify God with it.  Don't watch things on television that you shouldn't be watching.  Remember how God sees everything and is everywhere at once.  Avoid being lazy and idle and put pure things in your heart and mind.

Prayer: "Dear Lord, bless us and lift us up.  Make us like You, Lord.  Thank you for being good and holy.  There is no other like You.  Help us to watch the appropriate amount of television and help us to watch the right shows and avoid the wrong ones.  Praise You for being faithful to us.  You are our mighty God.  In Jesus' name, Amen."

America's Foundation

John Armstrong (1758 - 1843) was a Congressman, a United States Senator, a diplomat and a general. He expressed:

Nor is this spiritual and moral disease to be healed by a better education, a few external, transient thoughts. It requires the hand of the great Physician, the Lord Jesus Christ, by His Holy Spirit, and belief of the truth renewing the state of the mind and disposition of the heart as well, thereby leading the soul from a sense of fear of the wrath of God, the penalty of this broken law, and helpless in itself, to flee to the merits of Jesus, that only refuge or foundation which God hath laid in His Church, and who was made sin for us (that is, a sin-offering), that all “ believers be made the righteousness of God by Him.”

A Moment of Introspection

When is the last time you heard Jesus or God glorified on TV?

JCSM's Challenge

Evaluate the shows you watch on television.  You may need to make some changes.  Do all you can to watch shows that would honor God and avoid those shows and movies that do not.

May God richly bless you as you meet this week's challenge!

Word of the Week

hagnos (Greek, see Philippians 4:8): properly clean, (figuratively), innocent, modest, perfect: chaste, clean, pure

The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims:

Exodus 22:13 - If a thief is caught and is too poor to make a complete restitution, then he is to be sold to pay for his theft.

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" responds:

This was a way that a thief could work off his or her crime. This passage is about crime and restitution.

(This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained", by Dr. Jason Gastrich.  This book is on CD and gives over 4,000 answers to alleged Bible errors, regarding the entire Bible at http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org.  There is also a 300 question workbook that accompanies the CD-ROM.)

Quotes of the Week

There are no new quotes in this week's devotional message, but on Wednesday, we will be sending my notes from the Worldviews 2007 Bible Conference.  There are numerous wise quotes in my notes.  In the meantime, if you'd like to read more quotes, we have thousands in our archive!  Visit http://quotes.jcsm.org.
