Hello!

I hope you had a great weekend.

We've added 500 Disney Coloring Pages to our web site.  They are free to see and print!  We have a total of 900 of them and we will give them to anyone who makes a donation to JCSM.

Our weekly fasting is going very well.  We are about 3/4 finished!  If you need encouragement our want to join us, please click here or email us.  It has been an awesome experience.

On Tuesday night, Kevin Max (from DC Talk) will be performing at The Viper Room in Hollywood, California.  We've heard him sing with his band there before and it has been lots of fun.  My wife and I will be there, so make sure to say hi if you come!  By the way, after the show, they're having a special party with KMax and his fans and the secret password you need to enter is IMPOSTER.

This week, I begin teaching another session of music lessons at a local, Los Angeles community center.  I'm teaching two electric guitar courses and one keyboard course.  Please pray that a lot of students enroll and that everyone has fun and learns a good deal.

This Sunday at 2pm, Dr. Michael Shermer is speaking at Caltech in Pasadena, California.  He is an atheist and evolutionist and he'll be speaking on Creation vs. Evolution.  I'll be there and if you'd like to meet up, please reply to this message.

Welcome to the new readers of this message!  Here is your Devotion, A Moment of Introspection, JCSM's Challenge, the Word of the Week, a faith-builder from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained," and the Quotes of the Week.  Have a fantastic week and God bless you!

Love in Christ,

"Let's Defend Our Faith"

Acts 17:2-4  "Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, 'This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ.'  And some of them were persuaded; and a great multitude of the devout Greeks, and not a few of the leading women, joined Paul and Silas."

1 Peter 3:15  "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear."

2 Timothy 2:15  "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

Insight: Christians need to know the Bible and how to defend it and their faith in God.  We need to have a list of reasons for why we believe.  Take time to prepare yourself to defend your faith.  You'll be waking in the footsteps of people like Jesus and Paul.

Prayer: "Dear Lord, bless us and help us to know You better.  Help us to read your Word and know it intimately.  Thank you for giving us the Bible.  Thank you for giving us your Word that contains amazing accuracy.  Forgive our sins and purify us.  Thank you for wanting to use us, even though we are flawed and imperfect vessels.  Help us to know how to defend the scriptures and our faith in You.  In Jesus' name, Amen."

America's Foundation

Franklin Pierce (1804-1869), the 14th President of the United States, asserted in his Inaugural Address, March 4, 1853:

"Recognizing the wisdom of the broad principles of absolute religious toleration proclaimed in our fundamental law, and rejoicing in the benign influence which it has exerted upon our social and political condition, I should shrink from a clear duty if I failed to express my deepest conviction that we can place no secure reliance upon any apparent progress if it be not sustained by national integrity, resting upon the great truths affirmed and illustrated by Divine Revelation." ¹

He concluded the address at his inauguration by acknowledging his:

"Dependence upon God and His overruling providence." ²

A Moment of Introspection

If someone challenged the scriptures or your faith, would you know how to defend the Word or what you believe?

JCSM's Challenge

Prepare now to defend your faith.  Know the important verses and keep them handy.  Articulate the reasons why you believe and be ready to give this information to anyone who asks (and maybe even a few who don't ask!)

God bless you as you meet this week's challenge!

Word of the Week

deealegomahee (Greek, see Acts 17:2): to say thoroughly, discuss (in argument or exhortation), dispute, preach, reason (with), speak

The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims:

Exodus 12:29 - After God has sufficiently hardened the Pharaoh's heart, he kills all the firstborn Egyptian children. When he was finished "there was not a house where there was not one dead." Finally, he runs out of little babies to kill, so he slaughters the firstborn cattle, too. Of course there shouldn't have been any cattle since God already killed them with a "grievous murrain (Ex.9:6)." Well maybe he created some more so that he'd have some more to kill.

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" responds:

Between these two plagues, there was plenty of time for several things to happen.  The evil Egyptians could have stolen the Hebrews' cattle, bought or stolen some from traders, or some of the generous Hebrews could have given some of their cattle to the Egyptians.

(This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained", by Dr. Jason Gastrich.  This book is on CD and gives over 4,000 answers to alleged Bible errors, regarding the entire Bible at http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org.  There is also a 300 question workbook that accompanies the CD-ROM.)
