Dear Friends,

I hope you had a great weekend.

JCSM has a third financial need for you to pray about and consider.  In fact, I'll list all three for you.  We need:

1. Either a small monthly donation or a one-time donation, so we can advertise our Koran/Muslim web page to more Muslims via Google Ads.  We pay them 5 cents per click, so Muslims and those who seek information about the Koran can see the truth and turn to Christ.

2. Either color printing or an HP 97 color ink cartridge, so we can print more DVD covers for the CD-ROM we sell on apologetics.  Our supply is very low and we need to make more, so more people will be blessed.

3. We need a 1GB memory stick, PC3200 for a desktop computer, so our work computer can work more efficiently.  The quicker our computer runs, the quicker we can bless more people.

If you will pray about these needs and consider supporting our ministry, we will appreciate it.

Welcome to the new readers of this message!  Here is your Devotion, A Moment of Introspection, JCSM's Challenge, the Word of the Week, a faith-builder from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained," and the Quotes of the Week.  Have a fantastic week and God bless you!

Love in Christ,

Jason Gastrich, Ph.D.

"Sing and Shout in Praise"

Psalm 9:11  "Sing praises to the LORD, who dwells in Zion!
Declare His deeds among the people."

Psalm 100:1  "Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands!"

Revelation 4:11  "You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created."

Insight: When is the last time you sang and shouted to the Lord in praise?  The Bible tells us that we should praise God in these ways, so obey the Lord and be blessed!

Prayer: "Dear Lord, thank you for your Word.  Thank you for giving us a perfect instruction manual for life.  Praise You for being worthy of our praise and devotion.  There is no other like You.  Help us to worship You as we should.  Help us to sing to You and shout to You!  Remove our worries, fears, and insecurities.  Praise You for being faithful and good.  Thank you for delivering us and giving us salvation!  You are an awesome God.  In Jesus' name, Amen."

America's Foundation

James Abram Garfield (1831-1881 assassinated), was the 20th President of the United States of America, and after only serving four months he was shot, becoming the fourth President to die in office.

James Garfield had been a remarkable teacher at Hiram College in Ohio and, at the age of twenty-six, he was chosen as the College's president.  It was there that he studied law and preached an occasional sermon at the Disciples of Christ church, of which he was a member.  Garfield was strongly anti-slavery, and at the out-break of the Civil War was made a Lieutenant Colonel in the Union Army.  After a defeating a superior Confederate force, he was promoted to Brigadier General, then to Major General.

In concluding a letter to a friend, showing his submission to the death of his little son, Garfield wrote:

"In the hope of the Gospel, which is so precious in this hour of affliction, I am affectionately your brother in Christ." ¹

James Garfield wrote:

"The world's history is a Divine poem, of which the history of every nation is a canto, and every man a word.  It strains have been pealing along down the centuries, and though there have been mingled the discords of warring cannon and dying men, yet to the Christian philosopher and historian - the humble listener - there has been a Divine melody running through the song which speaks of hope and halcyon days to come." ²

While a student at Williams College, James Garfield, along with other students, climbed one of the high peaks seven miles distant, on "Mountain Day."  The surrounding scenery was enough to awaken religious awe.  Just then young Garfield broke the silence:

"Boys, it is a habit of mine to read a chapter in the Bible every evening with my absent mother.  Shall I read aloud?"

The little company assented; and, drawing from his pocket a well-worn Testament, he read in soft, rich tones the chapter which his mother in Ohio was reading at the same time, and then called on a classmate on the mountain top to pray." ³

A Moment of Introspection

You really don't want God to judge you by your merits.  God's standard is different than ours.

JCSM's Challenge

Ask God for what you do not deserve.  Don't ask Him for what you do deserve.  We have all sinned and deserve punishment, but God is merciful and gracious.  Seek Him in light of these things and ask for His blessings and grace.

God bless you as you meet this week's challenge!

Word of the Week

yehovah (Hebrew, see Psalm 9:11): self existent or eternal, Jehovah, Jewish national name of God, the Lord

The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims:

Exodus 7:5, 17 - "And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD." Who else could be so cruel and unjust?

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" responds:

The Egyptians had oppressed and mistreated the Israelites for many years. They refused to let them worship God and have the freedom they deserved. Therefore, God sent Moses to tell them to repent, He gave them time to repent, and when they didn't He deemed it time to judge them for their sins.

(This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained", by Jason Gastrich.  This book is on CD and gives over 4,000 answers to alleged Bible errors, regarding the entire Bible at http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org.  There is also a 300 question workbook that accompanies the CD-ROM.)

Quotes of the Week

Your worship and praise will bless God and others.

Are you ready to die?

Most of us don't plan our death.

Life is a field of thorn bushes and nobody comes through unscathed.

Your sins were cleansed on the cross and there is no need for purgatory.

You can't have a new body unless the first one dies (or you get raptured).

Christians will receive three crowns in Heaven.  They include the crown of life, glory, and righteousness.

In Heaven, God will praise you.

When unbelievers are judged before God, it won't be like in a court room.  It'll be like a sentencing.

After our death and God's judgment, there will be no appeal of parole.
