Hello!

I hope you had an excellent weekend.

JCSM is excited about our new discussion board that will be launched on June 7, 2006!  It'll be a great place for Christian fellowship and evangelism.  Several godly moderators are in place and ready to make sure everything goes smoothly.  On Wednesday, we'll email you the link, so make sure to check your email and visit our newest online ministry!

Some people have encouraged me to broadcast a daily or weekly radio show, so people can listen and be encouraged.  If you share this vision, please let me know.  If God opens the door, I'll surely walk through it, as I'd like to reach as many people as I can.  Perhaps one day I can broadcast an AM radio show on apologetics, or at the very least, I could broadcast a 1-3 minute exhortation each week, on a Christian radio station like KWAVE or AIR1.

Have you fasted, lately?  My weekly fasting has been going well and I hope everyone who has joined us has experienced an intimate time with the Lord, too.  If you'd like more information, just click here.

On Sunday night at 6pm, Phil Wickham plays a free concert at Calvary Chapel Chino Hills.  I heard Phil's first independent album and it was excellent and I recently bought his first nationally released album, but I haven't heard it, yet.  I've seen and heard him in concert though and I know it will be a great experience for all who come.

If you like American soccer, you'll want to start watching the World Cup this week.  On Friday, the games begin!

Please pray for all of my guitar students.  I have a number of them who take weekly and bi-monthly lessons.  I've been blessed with the responsibility of teaching and inspiring them!  Please also pray that I can acquire more students, as I need a few more in order to fill my schedule.

Welcome to the new readers of this message!  Here is your Devotion, A Moment of Introspection, JCSM's Challenge, the Word of the Week, a faith-builder from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained," and the Quotes of the Week.  Have a fantastic week and God bless you!

Love in Christ,

Jason Gastrich, Ph.D.

"Sound Doctrine Produces Sound Living"

Titus 1:7-9  "For a bishop (or overseer or spiritual leader) must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled, holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict."

2 Timothy 4:2-5  "Preach the word!  Be ready in season and out of season.  Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.  But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry."

Insight: It's important that we know the scriptures well.  We cannot be influenced by false doctrines.  Learn the Bible inside and out and have mentors and educators who can help you go even deeper.  Only sound doctrines can produce sound living.

Prayer: "Dear Lord, I pray that nobody reading this devotional is deceived by false doctrines.  I pray that if some are that they search the scriptures, get Christian education and mentoring, and discover the truth.  Please protect us from evil and from the evil one who wants to deceive us.  Thank you for your awesome Word.  There is no other like You.  In Jesus' name, Amen."

America's Foundation

Carlos P. Rómulo (1899-1985) was a Filipino politician who wrote and published 18 books.  He served as the President of the Fourth Session of United Nations' General Assembly (1949-1950), and chairman of the United Nations' Security Council.  He served with General Douglas MacArthur in the Pacific, was Ambassador to the United States, and became the first Asian to win the Pulitzer Prize in journalism in 1942.

From 1944 to 1946, Rómulo served as Resident Commissioner of the Philippines to the Unites States Congress.  He was the signatory for the Philippines to the United Nations' Charter, when it was founded in 1946.  He was the Philippines' Secretary of Foreign Affairs under President Elpidio Quirino (1950-1952), under President Diosdado Macapagal (1963-1964), and under President Ferdinand Marcos (1968-1984).  Additionally, Rómulo was a recipient of the Silver Buffalo Award, the highest adult award given by the Boy Scouts of America.

General Romulo, General of the Philippines, stated:

"Never forget, Americans, that yours is a spiritual country.  Yes, I know you're a practical people.   Like others, I've marveled at your factories, your skyscrapers, and your arsenals.  But underlying everything else is the fact that America began as a God-loving, God-fearing, God-worshipping people."  ¹

A Moment of Introspection

Righteous living will be evangelistic.

JCSM's Challenge

The next time you sin, ask yourself if it was an incidence or part of a pattern.  Either way, seek forgiveness from God.  However, if it was part of a pattern, ask God how to break it and follow His lead.  He will help you live a holy life.

God bless you as you meet this week's challenge!

Word of the Week

hoogee-aheeno (Greek, see Titus 2:1): to have sound health, be well (in body), figuratively to be uncorrupt (true in doctrine): be in health, (be safe and) sound, (be) whole (some)

The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims:

Exodus 4:11 - Who makes people deaf and blind? God.

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" responds:

* This verse shows that God makes people a variety of ways.  He even allows people to be mute, deaf, and blind.  God is so sovereign and in control that even when he allows something to happen it could be said that He made it happen.  This is why there is some confusion here.

* Foul spirits are still under God's control.  However, He allows them to do certain things for certain reasons.

(This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained", by Jason Gastrich.  This book is on CD and gives over 4,000 answers to alleged Bible errors, regarding the entire Bible at http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org.  There is also a 300 question workbook that accompanies the CD-ROM.)
