Hello!

I hope you had a great week and weekend.

My trip to Shreveport, Louisiana went very well.  Thanks to those who prayed for my safety.  My graduation from Louisiana Baptist University was a success and the entire week was lots of fun.  Click here if you'd like to read the notes I took from lectures by Chuck Missler, Bob Cornuke, and several others.

In the coming weeks, I will be developing an informative web site that tells all about Louisiana Baptist University, including my testimony, its awesome alumni, academic reviews, and much more.  If you're interested in a great Christian education that you can have anywhere in the world through distance learning, then LBU might be perfect for you.  Please reply to this email if you'd like more details.

This Thursday, my Mom is having outpatient surgery on her hand.  Please pray that it goes well.  It's not too serious, but she will experience some downtime and like all surgeries, there are risks involved.

Please pray that I'm able to find more acoustic and/or electric guitar students.  Right now, I have nine students, but I'd like to find about seven more.  I'm currently running some ads for my web sites: San Diego Guitar Lessons, Los Angeles Music Lessons, and Christian Guitar Lessons.  If you know anyone in Southern California, between or in Pasadena and San Diego, please forward them one of my web sites.

Welcome to the new readers of this message!  Here is your Devotion, A Moment of Introspection, JCSM's Challenge, the Word of the Week, a faith-builder from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained," and the Quotes of the Week.  Have a fantastic week and God bless you!

Love in Christ,

Jason Gastrich, Ph.D.

"The Value of Christian Education"

Daniel 12:4  "But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase."

Acts 17:10a, 11a  "Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea . . . These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily . . ."

2 Timothy 2:15  "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

2 Corinthians 6:14-18  "Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness?  And what communion has light with darkness?  And what accord has Christ with Belial?  Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?  And what agreement has the temple of God with idols?  For you are the temple of the living God.  As God has said: 'I will dwell in them And walk among them.  I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.'  Therefore 'Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord.  Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.  I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the LORD Almighty.'”

2 Timothy 3:16, 17  "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."

Insight: Can we even put a value on Christian education?  God wants us to learn about Him and He wants us to be equally yoked with believers.  Study the Word in a Christian school, please the Lord, grow spiritually, and discover what God has in store for your life.  He will teach you awesome things.

Prayer: "Dear Lord, thank you for Christian educators and for Christian education.  Thank you for giving us so many opportunities to study and learn.  Help us to learn great spiritual truths from people who have walked with You for a long time.  Thank you for the awesome, Christian books that are available to people all over the world.  Let us study your Word and understand You better.  Increase our faith and draw us close to You.  In Jesus' name, Amen."

America's Foundation

New Guide to the English Tongue 1740, published first in England by Thomas Dilworth, grew to gain universal adoption in the New England schools by 1765.  This book contained spelling, reading and grammar lessons, "adorned with proper Scriptures."  Its first lesson, having words only three letters long or less, went as such:

"No Man may put off the Law of God.  The Way of God is no ill Way.  My Joy is in God all the Day.  A bad Man is a Foe to God." ¹

Noah Webster, known as the "Schoolmaster to America," used only the Bible and Thomas Dilworth's book in his earliest school.  Thomas Dilworth said he wanted to rescue:

"Poor creatures from the Slavery of Sin and Satan by setting the word of God for a Lantern to our feet and a Light to out Paths." ²

A Moment of Introspection

What is the last Christian book that you read?  What did you learn?  Which book will you read next and why?  If you're not sure, ask God which book you should read next.

JCSM's Challenge

Prayerfully consider Christian education.  For some, it may mean attending a Christian junior high or high school.  For others, it could mean college.  If those schools are out of the question, then there is personal Bible study or group Bible study through your church.  Whatever your case may be, seek God and see where He leads you to get educated.  You won't regret it.

May God richly bless you as you meet this week's challenge!

Word of the Week

spoodadzo (Greek, see 2 Timothy 2:15): to make effort, be prompt or earnest, be diligent, endeavor, labour, study

The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims:

Exodus 3:16 - Can God be seen?

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" responds:

These verses simply say that God appeared. God the Father has no body and has never been seen by human eyes. However, He has appeared to people as a cloud, a burning bush, etc.

(This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained", by Jason Gastrich.  This book is on CD and gives over 4,000 answers to alleged Bible errors, regarding the entire Bible at http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org.  There is also a 300 question workbook that accompanies the CD-ROM.)
