"Goodbye Old Man"

Romans 6:5-11  "For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.  For he who has died has been freed from sin.  Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more.  Death no longer has dominion over Him.  For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.  Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Ephesians 4:20-24  "But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness."

Colossians 3:8-11  "But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.  Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all."

Insight: Christians need to remember that we have put off the old man and we have put on the new man.  Our old, sinful deeds have been forgiven and we need to avoid doing them, again.  We are now alive in Christ and new creations.  Let's live like we have been forgiven and avoid treading on the grace of God.

Prayer: "Dear Lord, thank you for the awesome changes that You make in people's lives.  Thank you for being a great and wonderful God.  There is no other like You.  Thank you for your mercy and grace.  Remind us that we have put off the old man and put on the new man.  Let us live like we are redeemed.  Let us see ourselves and all things as You do.  In Jesus' name, Amen."

America's Foundation

The Holy Bible, was found to have directly contributed to 34 percent of all quotes by the Founding Fathers.  This was discovered after reviewing 15,000 items from the Founding Fathers, (including newspaper articles, pamphlets, books, monographs, etc.)  The other main sources that the Founders quoted include: Montesquieu, Blackstone, Locke, Pufendorf, etc., who themselves took 60 percent of their quotes directly from the Bible.  Direct and indirect quotes combined reveal that 94 percent of all the quotes of the Founding Fathers are derived from the Bible. ¹

A Moment of Introspection

It's interesting how the Bible distinguishes between the old man and the new man.  Isn't it?  We have been changed by God and need to be the new man now.  The old man and the old life are gone.

JCSM's Challenge

Give a tithe or offering each time you go to church.  This help you make a habit of giving.  I've been doing this for many years and it is a blessing because it reminds me to continually give.  It also prevents me from putting it off and forgetting about it.

God bless you as you meet this challenge!

Word of the Week

neos / neoteros (Greek, see Colossians 3:10) - new, youthful, fresh, regenerate, young

The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims:

Genesis 46:21 - Were Naaman and Ard the sons or the grandsons of Benjamin?

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" responds:

They were the grandsons of Benjamin.  The Hebrew word for "son" also means descendant.  It is commonly used to designate a lineage and not always used to refer to a literal son.

(This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained", by Jason Gastrich.  This book is on CD and gives over 4,000 answers to alleged Bible errors, regarding the entire Bible at http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org.  There is also a 300 question workbook that accompanies the CD-ROM.)
