Hello! I hope you had an exciting and safe New Year's celebration. On January 1st, the 4th edition of JCSM's CD-ROM was released! It has over 100 additional answers to alleged Bible errors, plus the new version has some amazing, free animal pictures in it as well. If you'd like more information, please click here. This Tuesday, we launch our 2006 Fasting and Prayer program! If you haven't already signed up to fast with us, please reply to this email or click here for details. You won't want to miss out on what God can do as you fast every Tuesday with us. Are you unconvinced that you should fast? Perhaps this week's devotional will change your mind! As you can see above, the topic is "Fasting and Prayer." What if I told you that you could donate free Bibles? Click here and you can. Non-profit organizations pay for the Bibles and ship them to needy people when you click the link on that site. Please pray that my soccer team does well in our tournament. We have a few practices this week and play in a tournament this Saturday. Please also pray for our safety and edification. Welcome to the new readers of this message! Here is your Devotion, A Moment of Introspection, JCSM's Challenge, the Word of the Week, a faith-builder from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained," and the Quotes of the Week. Have a fantastic week and God bless you! Love in Christ, Jason Gastrich Contact Us: http://jcsm.org/contact.php
JCSM's Weekly Devotions (click here to listen!) Matthew 6:16-18 "Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly." 1 Corinthians 9:27 "But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway." Galatians 5:17 "For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other." Luke 4:1, 14 "And Jesus, being full of the Holy Spirit, returned from Jordan. And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee." Insight: God commands Christians to fast. When we do, we can experience increased intimacy with God and close communion with Christ. God will bless and reward those that obey Him. Fasting is also an awesome way to break the devil's chains of addiction. Decide to obey God's command to fast, today. Prayer: "Dear Lord, thank you for being good. Thank you for giving us an awesome way to loose the chains that the devil puts on us. Help us to obey You and fast. Thank you for blessing and rewarding those that love You and obey You. There is no other God like You. Praise You for your mighty power and love. Thank you for your mercy and grace, too. You are an awesome God and we need You to comfort and strengthen us today and as we fast. In Jesus' name, Amen."
There is no new quote this week. However, if you'd like to see numerous quotes from those that framed and founded America, please click here: http://jcsm.org/AmericasFounders/.
Imagine yourself standing in a large circle. That circle represents all of the blessings God will give you through prayer. Now, imagine a large square around that circle. God wants to bless you with everything in that square if you will pray and fast.
Join JCSM's 2006 Fasting and Prayer program! We will be fasting every Tuesday. You won't be alone! We'll send you emails to encourage you and we'll be here in case you need us. You can click here or reply to this email for more information. God bless you as you meet this week's challenge (actually, it's a challenge for the whole year)!
nace-tyoo-o (Greek, see Matthew 6:16): to abstain from food (religiously): fast
The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims: Genesis 46:21 - Benjamin was a grown man with tens sons (at least according to this verse) when Jacob's clan migrated to Egypt. But just before they left, Benjamin was called a "little child," a "little one," a "lad" ( 44:20,22). "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" responds: These Hebrew words were already discussed. They could easily have been interpreted "servant, short one, young man," etc. Genesis 46:8 - doesn't mention Benjamin. Genesis 46:21 only mentions he has ten sons. It doesn't say when they were conceived. (This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained", by Jason Gastrich. This book is on CD and gives over 4,000 answers to alleged Bible errors, regarding the entire Bible at http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org. There is also a 300 question workbook that accompanies the CD-ROM.)
There are no new quotes this week, but we have thousands in our archive! Visit http://quotes.jcsm.org. Plus, if you'd like to read a new quote every day, please go to http://jcsm.org/Wisdom.htm and bookmark it!
