Hello!

I hope you had a great weekend.

Thanks to those who helped me with my Wikipedia entry.  After a great number of people wrote things in support and against it, the entry was deleted by an administrator.  I can accept this and simply use my "User space" for some biographical details and such.

Thanksgiving is on Thursday and we hope that you take a minute to thank God, your friends, and your family for all they mean to you.  Let's also pray for those who are less fortunate.

This week, a couple of Christian artists are releasing new albums.  Scott Stapp has left his band Creed and went solo.  He likely did this so he could sing more directly about God.  I've heard the title song off "The Great Divide" and it is very good.  Plus, Tree63 is releasing another album and if it's anything like their last one, you'll definitely want to check it out.

Please pray that my soccer team does well.  We have our first game on Tuesday.  Please pray that they stay free from injury, too.

Welcome to the new readers of this message!  Here is your Devotion, A Moment of Introspection, JCSM's Challenge, the Word of the Week, a faith-builder from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained," and the Quotes of the Week.  Have a fantastic week and God bless you!

Love in Christ,

Jason Gastrich

"Give Thanks to God"

1 Chronicles 16:7  "Oh, give thanks to the LORD!  Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples!"

1 Thessalonians 5:18  "In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."

Ephesians 5:20  "Always give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Insight: We need to give God thanks. Thank God for--people, family, friends, enemies, teachers, situations (good, bad, and ugly), blessings (protection, wisdom, peace, love, conviction), provision (food, money, friends, family, shelter, freedom, school).

Prayer: "Dear Lord, bless us today.  Let us see You more clearly.  Help us to give You thanks for everything.  You are a great God and You have blessed us more than we deserve.  Let us see things as You do.  Forgive us for being selfish and unthankful.  Forgive us for misdirecting thanks when You give us great things.  We love You Lord.  Increase our faith in You.  Increase our love for You and others.  Bless those that are unfortunate this holiday season.  In Jesus' name, Amen."

America's Foundation

The Constitution of the State of Vermont 1786, stated:

"Frame of Government, Section 9.  And each member [of the Legislature], before he takes his seat, shall make and subscribe the following declaration, viz: "I do believe in one God, the Creator and Governor of the universe, the rewarded of the good and punisher of the wicked.  And I do acknowledge the Scripture of the Old and New Testament to be given by divine inspiration, and own and profess the [Christian] religion.  And no further or other religious test shall ever, hereafter, be required of any civil officer or magistrate in this State." ¹

A Moment of Introspection

How much time do you spend each week in thanks to God?

JCSM's Challenge

Make a list of things you're thankful for.  You can write it or simply pray it to God.  Thank Him for all His awesome blessings.

God bless you as you meet this week's challenge!

Word of the Week

yoo-khar-is-teh-o (Greek, see 1 Thessalonians 5:18): to be grateful, to express gratitude (towards), specifically to say grace at a meal: (give) thanks

The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims:

Genesis 36:12 - Amalek was born many years after his ancestors were "smitten." (14:7)

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" responds:

Genesis 14:7 says the Amalekites were attacked and not that they were eradicated.

(This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained", by Jason Gastrich.  This book is on CD and explains over 3,000 difficulties regarding the entire Bible at http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org.  There is also a 300 question workbook that accompanies the CD-ROM.)
