"Your Charcoal Fires" - #384
Hello!
I pray that you had a fantastic weekend.
If you're in Southern California, you won't want to miss The Revolution! Life Church in Temecula is hosting a worship conference where Jeff Deyo will be headlining. Jeff Deyo, Chris Surdock, and Likeminded will be performing and teaching workshops on worship! See here for details: http://myrevolution.tv/.
My church has found a new, temporary home! We had been meeting on SDSU's campus and we have simply outgrown it. For the next two years, while The Rock builds a new church, we will be meeting at 3554 Ruffin Road. Please pray that the transition goes well.
I pray that you turn and seek Christ for all you need. As you do, I pray that you are richly blessed.
It's beginning to get cold in San Diego, so we are burning wood for warmth and for recreation. We bought 1/6 cord of oak and I've found that lighting a fire is a great way to get away from the television and computer! Plus, I can do my graduate studies by it and burn marshmallows and make smores! If you don't know what a smore is, email me and I'll tell you.

John 18:17, 18, 25-27 "The servant girl who kept the door said to Peter, 'You are not also one of this Man’s disciples, are you?' He said, 'I am not.' Now the servants and officers who had made a fire of coals stood there, for it was cold, and they warmed themselves. And Peter stood with them and warmed himself. Therefore they said to him, 'You are not also one of His disciples, are you?' He denied it and said, 'I am not!' One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of him whose ear Peter cut off, said, 'Did I not see you in the garden with Him?' Peter then denied again; and immediately a rooster crowed."
John 21:9-12, 15-17 "As soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread. Jesus said to them, 'Bring some of the fish which you have just caught.' Simon Peter went up and dragged the net to land, full of large fish, one hundred and fifty-three; and although there were so many, the net was not broken. Jesus said to them, 'Come and eat breakfast.' So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, 'Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?' He said to Him, 'Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.' He said to him, 'Feed My lambs.' He said to him again a second time, 'Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?' He said to Him, 'Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.' He said to him, 'Tend My sheep.' He said to him the third time, 'Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?' Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, 'Do you love Me?' And he said to Him, 'Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.' Jesus said to him, 'Feed My sheep.'"
Insight: God wants to remind you of your restoration and how much He loves you. The Devil wants to remind you of your old self and how you denied God. We all have our charcoal fires. Don't let the bad memories ruin your future. Ignore the temptation to continually feel bad about the past. If you've confessed it to God, then you've been forgiven and you should move on. God will bless you with positive charcoal fires as you repent and obey Him!
When the Devil reminds you of your past, remind him of his future!
Prayer: "Thank you for loving us, Lord. Thank you for lighting a fire within us to do your will. We love You, Lord. Thank you for loving us while we were still sinners. Remind us of your grace and mercy. Thank you for being a great God. Forgive us for being immobilized by mistakes in the past. Help us to forgive ourselves and move on. Thank you for forgiving and forgetting our sins! There is no other like You. Help us to be like You. Lift us up and bless us. In Jesus' name, Amen."
Harry S. Truman (1884-1972), the 33rd President of the United
States of America, made many references to God and the Scriptures in his
Inaugural Address, January 20, 1949:
“With God’s help the future of mankind will be assured in a world of justice,
harmony and peace.” - January 20, 1949, Inaugural Address. Benjamin Weiss, God
in American History: A Documentation of America’s Religious Heritage (Grand
Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 1966), p. 141. Willard Cantelon, Money Master of the
World (Plainfield, NJ: Logos International, 1976), p. 121.
In his first address to Congress, President Harry S. Truman declared:
“At this moment I have in my heart a prayer. As I have assumed my heavy duties,
I humbly pray to Almighty God in the words of King Solomon, ‘Give therefore Thy
servant an understanding heart to judge Thy people that I may discern between
good and bad; for who is able to judge this Thy so great a people?’ I ask only
to be a good and faithful servant of my Lord and my people.” - In his first
address to Congress as President. Merle Miller, Plain Speaking – An Oral
Biography of Harry S. Truman (Berkley, 1982). Charles E. Jones, The Books You
Read (Harrisburg, PA: Executive Books, 1985), p. 197.
To Pope Pius XII, in 1947, President Truman wrote of America:
“This is a Christian nation.” - Larry Witham, ‘Christian Nation’ Now Fighting

Worldview (Atlanta, GA: An American Vision Publication, 1993), Vol. 9, No. 2, p.

On January 20, 1949, in his Second Inaugural Address, President Harry S. Truman
declared:
“We believe that all men are created equal because they are created in the image
of God.” - January 20, 1949, in his Second Inaugural Address. Proclaim Liberty
(Dallas, TX: Word of Faith), p. 2.
President Harry S. Truman, in 1950, stated:
“But all of us – at home, at war, wherever we may be – are within the reach of
God’s love and power. We all can pray. We all should pray. We should ask the
fulfillment of God’s will. We should ask for courage, wisdom, for the quietness
of soul which comes alone to them who place their lives in His hands.” - 1950.
Mrs. James Dobson (Shirley), chairman, The National Day of Prayer Information
Packet (Colorado Springs, CO: National Day of Prayer Tack Force, May 6, 1993).
President Harry S. Truman gave this admonition:
“The fundamental basis of this nation’s laws was given to Moses on the Mount.
The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings we get from
Exodus and St. Matthew, from Isaiah and St. Paul. I don’t think we emphasize
that enough these days. If we don’t have a proper fundamental moral background,
we will finally end up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in
rights for anybody except the State!” - Steve C. Dawson, God’s Providence in
America’s History (Rancho Cordova, CA: Steve Dawson, 1988), p. 13:1. David
Barton, The Myth of Separation (Aledo, TX: WallBuilder Press, 1991), p. 260.

A lot of times, we complain about not getting what we don't need.
When you're frustrated, instead of criticizing someone, ask them how you can help.
God bless you as you meet this week's challenge!

The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained
"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims:
Genesis 17:25 - From this verse and Gen.21:5-8, it is clear that Ishmael was nearly a grown man (at least 16 years old) when he and his mother were abandoned by Abraham. Yet according to Gen.21:14-18, he was only an infant at the time.
"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" responds:
Genesis 17:25 says Ishmael was 13 years old. Therefore, he is not much older than this in Genesis 21.
Genesis 21:18 uses a Hebrew word for "lad" that can mean several things. Here are some translations of this word: "young man" and "servant," etc.
Another translation, based on the Hebrew text in Genesis 21:18 reads, "Arise, encourage the young man and confirm his power. I will make him a great nation."
2 Kings 4:12 calls Gehazi a "servant" and uses this same word that was translated into "lad." It is quite apparent that he isn't a young child.
(This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained", by Jason Gastrich. This book is on CD and explains over 3,000 difficulties regarding the entire Bible at http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org. There is also a 300 question workbook that accompanies the CD-ROM.)
Complaining is never justified.
The more you complain, the less mature you are. The less you complain, the more mature you are.
Complaining shows that you are miserable inside.
Complaining leads to conflict.
God has ordained certain (e.g. difficult) circumstances in order to teach you.
Criticizing someone is saying you know more than someone else.
Not one complaining Israelite was allowed into the Promised Land.
If you are bent on complaining, you'll never experience God's full measure of joy until you quit.
Complaining and criticizing steals your joy.
People are in prison because they disobey God.
Some of us are in undesirable circumstances because we have disobeyed God.
Most of the people you see in shopping malls are wanting things they don't need.
The Devil wants to trick you into zealously wanting too much.
God will put you in situations that only He can fix, so don't complain to others about them. Go to God.
Complaining and criticizing is sin.
Complaining brings down the people around you.
If you aren't using your spiritual gifts, you are missing out on joy.
God will only use your maximum potential if you use your spiritual gifts.
Non-Christians do what non-Christians do, so don't be shocked by it.
If Christians spent the time they complain reading the Bible, they'd be much better off.
Trials are opportunities.
If you want to get rid of one problem, find a bigger problem.
These quotes came from God, me, and Miles McPhearson.
Do you need more quotes? We have thousands in our archives! They are located here: http://quotes.jcsm.org.
These quotes can be used for sanctification and fun. Most of them are directly based on scripture and scriptural principles. Some of the quotes are humorous or rhetorical, others are written from sermons and Bible studies, and some are lyrics from songs. If you’d like me to go into more detail on any of them, please email me.
Like most verses in the Bible, they can be debated. To use what I’ve written in the most beneficial way, try and trace them back to the scriptures and apply the true principles to your life in a meaningful way! Please don’t sell my quotes or publish them for profit. If English is not your first language, you may not understand some of the quotes. I'm sorry, but some of them are English metaphors and deal with multiple word meanings. God bless you all!
Please make a commitment to pray for this ministry. As every believer is tempted and tried, this ministry faces trials also. God has blessed me, JCSM and the people who have been reached! Unfortunately, the enemy knows this and spiritual warfare is the result. Please at least pray that the devotions continue to be written religiously, the web pages stay on the www and the readers are blessed, sanctified and protected from evil. Thank you very much in advance!
Do you want to help people receive the good news? We’re reaching new people every day with God’s awesome Word! If God has blessed you and you wish to send a love offering to JCSM, please send your gift to the address below.
