"Walk By Faith" - #380
Hello!
I hope you had an excellent weekend.
My 9-11 debate with Eddie Tabash is online, now. We have both the audio file and the video files. You can see more about this debate and freely download it here: http://jcsm.org/EddieTabash911Debate/EddieTabashDebate.htm.
JCSM has a discipleship program and we currently have a female mentor and a male protege available. This means we need a female protege and a male mentor for these people. If you'd like to join, please go here for more details: http://www.jcsm.org/Contents/Discipleship.htm.
Did you know that eBay uses an organization called Mission Fish to help JCSM benefit from their members' auctions? You and your friends can sell things on eBay and designate the funds you receive to go to JCSM. Since we are a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization, you'll also get a tax break on the donation. Please email us if you'd like more details or visit http://missionfish.org.
We have a new OCCM (http://occm.org) member! Illinois Theological Seminary has received a membership because they are an organization that affirms the biblical gospel of Jesus Christ. When you have a minute, please visit their web site: http://www.freewebz.com/indepthseminary.
I'm looking to play some Christmas songs with my guitar students in a local convalescent home. Please pray that we are able. I called the one where my Grandma is living and I'm hoping we can play there. We want to play for them in December.
TobyMac released his album last week and I'm going to get it, tomorrow. It should be excellent. Caedmon's Call releases their new album on Tuesday. They have spent some time in India on a missions trip and I heard them say that they brought back some instruments that nobody has ever heard! They've used them on their new album and they've even hired some of the Indian musicians to join them on their next tour. I'm sure their newest album will be just as great as their previous ones.

Hebrews 11:1 and 6 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."
2 Corinthians 5:7 "For we walk by faith, not by sight."
Galatians 5:22 "But the fruit of the Spirit is . . . faithfulness . . ."
Luke 17:5 "And the apostles said to the Lord, 'Increase our faith.'"
James 2:18b "Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works."
1 Corinthians 10:13 "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."
2 Timothy 2:11-13 "This is a faithful saying: For if we died with Him, We shall also live with Him. If we endure, We shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He also will deny us. If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself."
Insight: How faithful are you to God? God is completely faithful to us and we should emulate His faithfulness. Attempt to be more and more faithful. Pray for more faith and God will give it to you. Faith is a very important fruit of the spirit.
Prayer: "Dear Lord, bless us. Increase our faith. Thank you for loving us more than we understand and thank you for your patience with us. Praise You for being a good God and wanting good things for us. Forgive us for the times when we were unfaithful to You. Remind us that You are faithful no matter what. Help us to emulate You and your perfect example. Thank you for the people who have had great faith in You. Let them encourage us as we seek You and your will. We love You, Lord. In Jesus' name, Amen."
"If there is anything in my thoughts or style to commend, the credit is due to my parents for instilling in me an early love of the Scriptures. If we abide by the principles taught in the Bible, our country will go on prospering and to prosper; but if we and our posterity neglect its instructions and authority, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury all our glory in profound obscurity." - Henry H. Halley, Halley's Bible Handbook (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan Publishing House, 1965), p. 18. also Alfred Armand Montapert, Distilled Wisdom (Englewood Cliffs, NJ: Prentice Hall, Inc., 1965), p. 37.
Daniel Webster, in speaking at the bicentennial celebration of the landing of the Pilgrims at Plymouth Rock, December 22, 1820, declared:
"Lastly, our ancestors established their system of government on morality and religious sentiment. Moral habits, they believed, cannot safely be trusted on any other foundation than religious principle, nor any government be secure which is not supported by moral habits.... Whatever makes men good Christians, makes them good citizens." - December 22, 1820. The Works of Daniel Webster (Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1853), Vol. I, pp. 22-24. David Barton, The Myth of Separation (Aledo, TX: WallBuilder Press, 1991), p. 134. also Gary DeMar, God and Government, A Biblical and Historical Study (Atlanta, GA: American Vision Press, 1984), p. xiii. also The Rebirth of America (Philadelphia: Published by the Arthur S. DeMoss Foundation, 1986), p. 29. also Burton Stevenson, The Home Book of Quotations (New York: Dodd, Mead and Company, 1967), p. 266. John Bartlett, Bartlett's Familiar Quotations (Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1855, 1980), p. 450.
"Cultivated mind was to act on uncultivated nature; and more than all, a government and a country were to commence, with the very first foundations laid under the divine light of the Christian religion. Happy auspices of a happy futurity! Who would wish that his country's existence had otherwise begun?" - The Works of Daniel Webster (Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1853), Vol. I, pp. 22. David Barton, The Myth of Separation (Aledo, TX: WallBuilder Press, 1991), p. 134.
"Finally, let us not forget the religious character of our origin. Our fathers were brought hither by their high veneration for the Christian religion. They journeyed by its light, and labored in its hope. They sought to incorporate its principles with the elements of their society, and to diffuse its influence through all their institutions, civil, political, or literary.
"Let us cherish these sentiments, and extend this influence still more widely; in full conviction that that is the happiest society which partakes in the highest degree of the mild and peaceful spirit of Christianity." - The Works of Daniel Webster (Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1853), Vol. I, pp. 48. David Barton, The Myth of Separation (Aledo, TX: WallBuilder Press, 1991), p. 134. "Our Christian Heritage," Letter from Plymouth Rock (Marlborough, NH: The Plymouth Rock Foundation), p. 5. Walker Lewis, ed., Speak for Yourself, Daniel: A Life of Webster in His Own Words (Boston: Houghton Mifflin Co., 1969), p. 86. On June 17, 1843, Daniel Webster spoke of the founding father's regard for the Bible in a speech at the Bunker Hill Monument, Charleston, Massachusetts:
"The Bible came with them. And it is not to be doubted, that to free and universal reading of the Bible, in that age, men were much indebted for right views of civil liberty.
The Bible is a book of faith, and a book of doctrine, and a book of morals, and a book of religion, of special revelation from God; but it is also a book which teaches man his own individual responsibility, his own dignity, and his equality with his fellow-man." - June 17, 1843, in his Speech at Bunker Hill Monument, Charlestown, Massachusetts. Burton Stevenson, The Home Book of Quotations - Classical & Modern (New York: Dodd, Mead and Company, 1967), p. 158. Peter Marshall and David Manuel, The Glory of America (Bloomington, MN: Garborg's Heart 'N Home, Inc., 1991), 8.8. Stephen Abbott Northrop, D.D., A Cloud of Witnesses (Portland, Oregon: American Heritage Ministries, 1987), p. 491.
Daniel Webster stated:
"If religious books are not widely circulated among the masses in this country, I do not know what is going to become of us as a nation. If truth be not diffused, error will be;
"If God and His Word are not known and received, the devil and his works will gain the ascendancy; If the evangelical volume does not reach every hamlet, the pages of a corrupt and licentious literature will;
"If the power of the Gospel is not felt throughout the length and breadth of the land, anarchy and misrule, degradation and misery, corruption and darkness will reign without mitigation or end." - Peter Marshall and David Manuel, The Glory of America (Bloomington, MN: Garborg's Heart 'N Home, Inc., 1991), 12.7.
"If we work on marble, it will perish; if on brass, time will efface it; if we rear up temples, they will crumble into dust; but if we work upon immortal minds and imbue them with principles, with the just fear of God and the love of our fellow men, we engrave on those tablets something that will brighten to all eternity." - "The Voices of America's Heritage," Torch (Dallas, TX: Texas Eagle Forum, February 1994), vol. 1, no. 7, p. 4.
"The Lord's Day is the day on which the Gospel is preached... and although we live in a reading age and in a reading community, yet the preaching of the Gospel is the human agency which has been and still is most efficaciously employed for the spiritual good of men. That the poor had the Gospel preached to them was an evidence of His mission which the Author of Christianity Himself proclaimed." - Peter Harvey, Reminiscences and Anecdotes of Daniel Webster (Boston: Little, Brown & Co. 1890), pp. 393-394. Peter Marshall and David Manuel, The Glory of America (Bloomington, MN: Garborg's Heart 'N Home, Inc., 1991), 1.16.
In a discussion, being seated in a drawing-room, Daniel Webster laid his hand on a copy of the Holy Scriptures and proclaimed:
"This is the Book. I have read the Bible through many times, and now make it a practice to read it through once every year. - It is a book of all others for lawyers, as well as divines; and I pity the man who cannot find in it a rich supply of thought and of rules for conduct. It fits man for life - it prepares him for death.
"My brother knew the importance of Bible truths. The Bible led him to prayer, and prayer was his communication with God. On the day he died he was engaged in an important cause in the courts then in session. But this cause, important as it was, did not keep him from his duty to God. He found time for prayer; for on his desk which he had just left was found a prayer written by him on that day, which for fervent piety, a devotedness to his heavenly Master, and for expressions of humility I think was never excelled." - Tyron Edwards, D.D., The New Dictionary of Thought - A Cyclopedia of Quotations (Garden City, NY: Hanover House, 1852, The Standard Book Company, 1963), p. 49. Charles Lanman, Private Life of Daniel Webster, p. 104. Stephen Abbott Northrop, D.D., A Cloud of Witnesses (Portland, Oregon: American Heritage Ministries, 1987), p. 491.
How can you prove to others that God exists?
Answer the question above in a succinct, yet complete manner. Consider writing it down, too. If you have it handy, you can share it with someone; even through email.
If you need help answering this question, you may want to watch or hear my recent debate. I gave several points and arguments regarding the existence of God. The debate link is at the top of this page.
May God bless you richly as you meet this week's challenge!

The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained
"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims:
Genesis 17:8 - God gives Abraham and his descendants all the land of Canaan "for an everlasting possession." But history and the Bible (Acts 7:5, Heb.11:13) show that this promise was not kept.
"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" responds:
God gave all of this land to Abram and his descendants. It was their spiritual inheritance and gift. Simply because they haven't always occupied every inch of it doesn't mean it isn't theirs.
(This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained", by Jason Gastrich. This book is on CD and explains over 3,000 difficulties regarding the entire Bible at http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org. There is also a 300 question workbook that accompanies the CD-ROM.)
Sometimes people mistreat us for reasons that have nothing to do with us.
Walking by faith is learning to trust God because of who He is; not who we are.
If Jesus is in your heart, you can't be the same.
Don't focus on what you cannot do; unless you're focusing on God's grace and salvation!
We have more things wrong with us then we'll ever know.
God will speak things to you that will never hit your eardrum.
The Devil and his agents will temps us when we are self-confident, yet weak.
Surrender your strengths to God.
God has all the resources and all the answers. What are you waiting for?
These quotes came from God, me, and Miles McPhearson.
Do you need more quotes? We have thousands in our archives! They are located here: http://quotes.jcsm.org.
These quotes can be used for sanctification and fun. Most of them are directly based on scripture and scriptural principles. Some of the quotes are humorous or rhetorical, others are written from sermons and Bible studies, and some are lyrics from songs. If you’d like me to go into more detail on any of them, please email me.
Like most verses in the Bible, they can be debated. To use what I’ve written in the most beneficial way, try and trace them back to the scriptures and apply the true principles to your life in a meaningful way! Please don’t sell my quotes or publish them for profit. If English is not your first language, you may not understand some of the quotes. I'm sorry, but some of them are English metaphors and deal with multiple word meanings. God bless you all!
Please make a commitment to pray for this ministry. As every believer is tempted and tried, this ministry faces trials also. God has blessed me, JCSM and the people who have been reached! Unfortunately, the enemy knows this and spiritual warfare is the result. Please at least pray that the devotions continue to be written religiously, the web pages stay on the www and the readers are blessed, sanctified and protected from evil. Thank you very much in advance!
Do you want to help people receive the good news? We’re reaching new people every day with God’s awesome Word! If God has blessed you and you wish to send a love offering to JCSM, please send your gift to the address below.
