"The Christian Bible Study Fellowship Group" - #375
Hello!
I pray that you're doing well.
Next week, I'm going to an orientation meeting at my church for those that want to host a Bible study group in their home. I'm hoping to open my home to people who are interested in growing in Christ. Please pray that everything goes well and that we find a good time for these meetings because I'm generally very busy.
Last week, I was ill for a spell. I battled a virus and won. Glory to God. I'm feeling much better, now. Thanks to those that prayed for me and helped me through it.
If you're in Southern California, you should join us at Maranatha Chapel on Wednesday night and hear Phil Wickham perform. Let me know if you'll be there. I talked to Phil and he will definitely be doing the worship, even though Maranatha's site lists another musician.
My church has been granted a conditional use permit for their new building. This is a great blessing and it did not come easy. It took many meetings and a lot of planning and work. Let's pray that everything else goes smoothly as they prepare the building for services.

"The Christian Bible Study Fellowship Group"
Ecclesiastes 4:12 "Though one may be overpowered by another, two can
withstand him.
And a threefold cord is not quickly broken."
2 Corinthians 6:14 "Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?"
1 John 1:6, 7 "If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin."
Hebrews 10:24, 25 "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching."
Insight: Christian Bible study fellowship groups are very important. They help us grow spiritually. If you've ever been in one, then you understand the many benefits. If you aren't in one now, pray and see where God leads you. You could be blessed and a blessing to others.
Prayer: "Dear Lord, thank you for wanting us to grow in You. Thank you for giving us the local church and its ministries to help us. Let us have discipline to take time out of our busy schedule to pray, fellowship, and read your Word with other believers. Thank you for the great blessings through Bible study fellowship groups. Remind those that haven't been to one in a long time. Help those that feel like they are all alone in this world. Remind us all that You are faithful and You have a wonderful plan for us. In Jesus' name, Amen."
In Innocent Abroad, 1869, which solidly established his reputation, Mark Twain wrote:
"It is hard to make a choice of the most beautiful passage in a book which is so gemmed with beautiful passages as the Bible....
"Who taught these ancient writers the simplicity of language, their felicity of expression, their pathos, and above all, their faculty of sinking themselves entirely out of sight of the reader and making the narrative stand out alone and seem to tell itself? Shakespeare is always present when one reads his book; Macaulay is present when we follow the march of his stately sentences; but the Old Testament writers are hidden from view." - Innocents Abroad, or the New Pilgrims' Progress, p. 492. Stephen Abbott Northrop, D.D., A Cloud of Witnesses (Portland, Oregon: American Heritage Ministries, 1987), p. 88.
"We dismounted on those shores which the feet of the Saviour had made holy ground.... We left Capernaum behind us. It was only a shapeless ruin. It bore no semblance to a town. But, all desolate and unpeopled as it was, it was illustrious ground. From it sprang that tree of Christianity whose broad arms overshadow so many distant lands today. Christ visited his old home at Nazareth, and saw His brothers Joses, Judas, James, and Simon....
"Who wonders what passed in their minds when they saw this brother (who was only a brother to them, however He might be to others a mysterious stranger; who was a God, and had stood face to face with God above the clouds) doing miracles, with crowds of astonished people for witnesses? - Innocents Abroad, or the New Pilgrims' Progress, p. 499-502. Stephen Abbott Northrop, D.D., A Cloud of Witnesses (Portland, Oregon: American Heritage Ministries, 1987), p. 88.
"One of the most astonishing things that has yet fallen under our observation is the exceedingly small portion of the earth from which sprang the new flourishing plant of Christianity. The longest journey our Saviour ever performed was from here to Jerusalem - about one hundred to one hundred and twenty miles.... Leaving out two or three short journeys, He spent His live, preaching His Gospel, and performing His miracles, within a compass no larger than an ordinary country of the United States....
"In the starlight, Galilee has no boundaries but the broad compass of the heavens, and is a theatre meet for great events; meet for the birth of a religion able to save the world; and meet for the stately figure appointed to stand upon its stage and proclaim high decrees." - Innocents Abroad, or the New Pilgrims' Progress, p. 513. Stephen Abbott Northrop, D.D., A Cloud of Witnesses (Portland, Oregon: American Heritage Ministries, 1987), p. 88.
In The Tragedy of Pudd'nhead Wilson, 1894, Mark Twain penned:
"Adam was but human - this explains it all. He did not want the apple for the apple's sake, he wanted it because it was forbidden." - 1894, in Pudd'nhead Wilson, Pudd'nhead Wilson's Calendar, chapter 2. John Bartlett, Bartlett's Familiar Quotations (Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1855, 1980), p. 624.
"Whoever has lived long enough to find out what life is, knows how deep a debt of gratitude we owe to Adam, the first great benefactor of our race. He brought death into the world." - 1894, in Pudd'nhead Wilson, Pudd'nhead Wilson's Calendar, chapter 3. John Bartlett, Bartlett's Familiar Quotations (Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1855, 1980), p. 624.
"It is by the goodness of God that in our country we have those three unspeakably precious things: freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, and the prudence never to practice either of them. - 1897, in Pudd'nhead Wilson's New Calendar, chapter 20. John Bartlett, Bartlett's Familiar Quotations (Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1855, 1980), p. 625.
Have you ever been mentored? Did you know that we have several examples of mentor/protege relationships in the Bible? If you're already in a Bible study group and you want to draw even closer to Christ, then consider finding a Christian mentor!
Seek and find a Bible study fellowship group to join! Virtually all churches have them. Many churches have different types, too (e.g. Men's, Women's, Couple's, College, Junior High, etc.). God may even call you to start a group.
If you're already in a Bible study fellowship group, then please pray for those that aren't. God bless you as you meet this week's challenge!

The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained
"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims:
Genesis 15:16 - "In the fourth generation they [Abraham's descendants] shall come hither again." But, if we count Abraham, then their return occurred after seven generations: Abraham, Issac (Gen.21:1-3), Jacob (Gen.25:19-26), Levi (Gen.35:22-23), Kohath (Ex.6:16), Amramn (Ex.6:18), and Moses (Ex.6:20).
"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" responds:
This Hebrew word for "generation" means "a revelation of time or an age." This doesn't simply mean four children. The phrase used here is "after four generations they will return here" and this clearly means after 400 years and before 500 years - some time after four generations - which happened.
(This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained", by Jason Gastrich. This book is on CD and explains over 3,000 difficulties regarding the entire Bible at http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org. There is also a 300 question workbook that accompanies the CD-ROM.)
You can grow quickly and strong in a small group.
Biblical fellowship is talking to others about the things of God.
When do you discuss the things of God with others?
Your vision is your preferred future.
Christians should be helping to influence and transform their culture.
You can learn to pray in your Bible study group.
You can talk about your feelings and spiritual needs to the believers in your small group.
These quotes came from God, me, and Miles McPhearson.
Do you need more quotes? We have thousands in our archives! They are located here: http://quotes.jcsm.org.
These quotes can be used for sanctification and fun. Most of them are directly based on scripture and scriptural principles. Some of the quotes are humorous or rhetorical, others are written from sermons and Bible studies, and some are lyrics from songs. If you’d like me to go into more detail on any of them, please email me.
Like most verses in the Bible, they can be debated. To use what I’ve written in the most beneficial way, try and trace them back to the scriptures and apply the true principles to your life in a meaningful way! Please don’t sell my quotes or publish them for profit. If English is not your first language, you may not understand some of the quotes. I'm sorry, but some of them are English metaphors and deal with multiple word meanings. God bless you all!
Please make a commitment to pray for this ministry. As every believer is tempted and tried, this ministry faces trials also. God has blessed me, JCSM and the people who have been reached! Unfortunately, the enemy knows this and spiritual warfare is the result. Please at least pray that the devotions continue to be written religiously, the web pages stay on the www and the readers are blessed, sanctified and protected from evil. Thank you very much in advance!
Do you want to help people receive the good news? We’re reaching new people every day with God’s awesome Word! If God has blessed you and you wish to send a love offering to JCSM, please send your gift to the address below.
You can join our vision and help this ministry! Your donations will keep these ministries running and further our visions for evangelism. We host tens of thousands of web pages to lead people to the Lord. Frequently, we make new ones and they are used to bring more and more people into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ.
Would you like to support God’s work on the web? If this ministry has touched you in a special way, please pray and consider sending a gift to JCSM. You can join us in our vision to reach people on the web with the good news! Either email me for more information or simply go here: http://vision.jcsm.org.

Along with getting support, we also give support! JCSM regularly gives to churches, Christian ministries, and needy people. Another function of this ministry is to do counseling. We are always answering questions about life, the Lord and everything in between. Lastly, we do a lot of research on religious topics on the internet and library. You will definitely see the results of our hard work and your loving support, in the web pages, and in the weekly devotions!
