"Never Give In" - #365
Hello!
I pray that you had a great weekend.
This weekend, I was attending some soccer certification courses in San Diego. They were long and intense, but I learned a good deal. Please pray that the things I learned benefit the team I coach.
Please pray for one of my guitar students. His name is Vinnie and the doctor has told him that he has an enlarged thyroid. Right now, this isn't a serious condition, but we hope and pray that it never becomes one.
Last Wednesday, I visited Maranatha Chapel and learned some interesting things from Ray Bentley's son. His name is Dan Bentley and you can read the quotes below to see what I learned. On July 11, I'm going to return and hear Don Richardson. He is a missionary to the indigenous people of Indonesia and the author of Peace Child and Eternity In Their Hearts, so I'm excited about his appearance and look forward to meeting him. If you've read his books, then you know that he has some awesome stories of faith and spirituality.

2 Thessalonians 3:13 "But as for you brethren, do not grow weary in doing good."
1 Corinthians 9:24, 25 "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown."
Insight: Do you good for awhile, then get tired of obeying God? Don't forget that God is watching and He will reward your good deeds. Obey Him because you love Him and serve others because you love them as well. Pray and ask God to give you strength to obey when you feel weak and weary.
Prayer: "Thank you for strengthening us, Lord. Thank you for giving us the strength to carry on when we feel weak and weary and want to give in. Lift us up. Give us joy and peace. Praise You for being stronger than all and able to give us your strength when we need it. Remind us that You are faithful. Nobody else is faithful like You are. Forgive us for trusting lesser things. Help us to put our trust in You. Increase our faith in You. Increase our love for You and others. We love You Lord and we pray these things in Jesus' name, Amen."
Henry Opukahaia (d.1818), was the first Hawaiian convert to Christianity. Orphaned at age 10, he was raised by his uncle to be a pagan priest (kahuna) of the Hawaiian religion. He grew disillusioned with the rituals and chants, and left on an American ship bound for New England with his Hawaiian friend, Thomas Hopu. There he was befriended by students and professors of Yale College and soon became a Christian. He studied Greek and Hebrew and translated sections of the Bible into the Hawaiian language. In his memoirs, which sold 500,000 copies after his death, Henry Opukahaia wrote:
"My poor countrymen, without knowledge of the true God, and ignorant of the future world, have no Bible to read, no Sabbath..." - In his memoirs. "Hawaii's Heroes of Faith" University of the Nations (Hawaii: Youth With a Mission Newsletter).
His friend, Thomas Hopu, and a small group of New Englanders launched the first missionary venture to the islands in 1820.
Do you really think it is more blessed to give than it is to receive? Did you know that extra endorphins are produced when we give, so giving actually makes us feel better.
Pray that you never give in. Pray that you seek God in your time of need. When we are weary, we need God the most.
God bless you as you meet this week's challenge!
ek-kak-eho (Greek, see 2 Thessalonians 3:13): to be bad or weak, to fail (in heart), faint, weary
The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained
"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims:
Genesis 11:4 - God worries that people could actually build a tower high enough to reach him (them?) in heaven.
"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" responds:
Babel was the place where idolatry began. Human pride ("let us make a name for ourselves") and fleshy desires were running rampant. God was not worrying about the efforts of man reaching Him. They couldn't. This is precisely why God sent Jesus Christ to Earth and why He has been reaching man with His plan of redemption since the first sin in the Garden of Eden.
(This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained", by Jason Gastrich. This book is on CD and explains over 3,000 difficulties regarding the entire Bible at http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org. There is also a 300 question workbook that accompanies the CD-ROM.)
Christians share the same Heavenly Father.
Have you discovered the blessings in serving God and others?
It's easy to serve and work diligently when we remember the Boss is watching.
God's servants live to please an audience of One.
God doesn't just see your good deeds. He records them.
You can't become too little for God; only too big.
God is watching and He sees your service.
Heaven is approaching.
If you live for this world, your heart and soul won't be fulfilled or satisfied.
Those who make the biggest impact on this world are those who are living for the next one.
When trouble finds you, remember that you're not home yet.
These quotes came from God, me, and Dan Bentley.
Do you need more quotes? We have thousands in our archives! They are located here: http://quotes.jcsm.org.
These quotes can be used for sanctification and fun. Most of them are directly based on scripture and scriptural principles. Some of the quotes are humorous or rhetorical, others are written from sermons and Bible studies, and some are lyrics from songs. If you’d like me to go into more detail on any of them, please email me.
Like most verses in the Bible, they can be debated. To use what I’ve written in the most beneficial way, try and trace them back to the scriptures and apply the true principles to your life in a meaningful way! Please don’t sell my quotes or publish them for profit. If English is not your first language, you may not understand some of the quotes. I'm sorry, but some of them are English metaphors and deal with multiple word meanings. God bless you all!
Please make a commitment to pray for this ministry. As every believer is tempted and tried, this ministry faces trials also. God has blessed me, JCSM and the people who have been reached! Unfortunately, the enemy knows this and spiritual warfare is the result. Please at least pray that the devotions continue to be written religiously, the web pages stay on the www and the readers are blessed, sanctified and protected from evil. Thank you very much in advance!
