"The Promise of Bible Prophecy"

Luke 24:44-49  "Then He said to them, 'These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.'  And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.  Then He said to them, 'Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.  And you are witnesses of these things.  Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.'"

Zechariah 11:12, 13

Then I said to them, If it is agreeable to you, give me my wages; and if not, refrain. So they weighed out for my wages thirty pieces of silver. John 15:24, 25

Just as many were astonished at you, So His visage was marred more than any man, And His form more than the sons of men;

Romans 5:6, 8

For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

John 19:32, 33, 36

Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with Him. But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, Not one of His bones shall be broken.

Zechariah 12:10

Matthew 27:57-60

Now when evening had come, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus. This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Insight: Jesus was the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies.  They all point toward Him.  The prophecies and fulfillments listed above are only part of them.  There are many more prophecies that Jesus fulfilled; showing Him to be the only Christ, God's chosen Messiah.

Prayer: "Dear Lord, thank you for sending Jesus Christ to be the Messiah and fulfill the Old Testament prophecies.  Thank you for those people that read, know, and understand God's purpose for Jesus and His purpose on this Earth.  Thank you for giving us undeniable proof of Jesus' Messiahship.  Forgive those that doubt and fear.  Strengthen them and help them believe.  Increase our faith, Lord.  Praise You for being worthy or our devotion and praise.  In Jesus' name, Amen."

Henri Jean Fabre (1823-1915), considered the "Father of Modern Entomology," was a famous biologist who pioneered unprecedented studies of insects in their habitats.  He also authored numerous popular textbooks, including Souvenirs entomologigues, 1879-1907.  Henri Jean Fabre, who was a personal friend of Louis Pasteur, asserted concerning God:

"Without Him I understand nothing; without Him all is darkness... Every period has its manias.  I regard Atheism as a mania.  It is the malady of the age.  You could take my skin from me more easily than my faith in God."  - Henry M. Morris, Men of Science - Man of God (El Cajon, CA: Master Books, Creation Life Publishers, Inc., 1990), pp. 62-63.

A Moment of Introspection

When Jesus said that the gates of Hell wouldn't prevail against the church, He was describing Hell on the defensive and the church on the offensive.  You don't attack with gates.  You defend with them.

JCSM's Challenge

Memorize ten Messianic prophecies and fulfillments!

If you aren't great at memorizing scriptures and references, then at least memorize the general passages in the Old Testament that are fulfilled in the New Testament.  Consider writing them down.  Whatever you do, commit them to memory.  They will increase your faith and help you witness to others in Jesus' name.

God bless you as you meet this week's challenge!

Word of the Week

fago (Greek - see Luke 24:43) - eat, eat meat, literally or figuratively

The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims:

Genesis 10:24 - says that the father of Salah was Arphaxad, but Luke (Lk.3:35-36) says Salah's father was Cainan.

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" responds:

Arphaxad begat Cainan and Cainan begat Salah.  Genesis 10:24 simply omits one man (Cainan), however the fact that Salah was from Arphaxad is not lost.  Incidentally, the Masoretic text, the Targum, the Latin Vulgate and the Greek Septuagint support the passage in Luke.

The word "begat" doesn't specifically mean "fathered."  This word has been used, in lineage purposes, to designate family lines.  Occasionally, it designates a line and omits a person.

(This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained", by Jason Gastrich.  This book is on CD and explains over 3,000 difficulties regarding the entire Bible at http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org.  There is also a 300 question workbook that accompanies the CD-ROM.)

Quotes of the Week

Jesus is the theme of prophecy.

Prophecy isn't about what is coming in the future.  It's all about who is coming.

Jesus is the origin of our understanding of Old Testament prophecy.

God initiated the prophesied lineage with a miracle child (Isaac) because He would culminate it with a miracle child (Jesus).

When the Israelites put the blood on their doors before the Passover, they inadvertently applied it in the shape of a cross.

Jesus is the High Priest who makes the sacrifice and the Lamb who is the sacrifice.

Jesus Christ redeems us from spiritual widowhood and becomes our Kinsman-Redeemer.

Just as in Song of Solomon, Jesus comes for his bride first as shepherd and next as King of Kings.

These quotes came from God, me, and Ed Hindson.

Do you need more quotes?  We have thousands in our archives!  They are located here: http://quotes.jcsm.org.

These quotes can be used for sanctification and fun.  Most of them are directly based on scripture and scriptural principles.  Some of the quotes are humorous or rhetorical, others are written from sermons and Bible studies, and some are lyrics from songs.  If you’d like me to go into more detail on any of them, please email me.

Like most verses in the Bible, they can be debated.  To use what I’ve written in the most beneficial way, try and trace them back to the scriptures and apply the true principles to your life in a meaningful way!  Please don’t sell my quotes or publish them for profit.  If English is not your first language, you may not understand some of the quotes.  I'm sorry, but some of them are English metaphors and deal with multiple word meanings.  God bless you all!

Please make a commitment to pray for this ministry.  As every believer is tempted and tried, this ministry faces trials also.  God has blessed me, JCSM and the people who have been reached!  Unfortunately, the enemy knows this and spiritual warfare is the result.  Please at least pray that the devotions continue to be written religiously, the web pages stay on the www and the readers are blessed, sanctified and protected from evil.  Thank you very much in advance!

Do you want to help people receive the good news?  We’re reaching new people every day with God’s awesome Word!  If God has blessed you and you wish to send a love offering to JCSM, please send your gift to the address below.

You can join our vision and help this ministry!  Your donations will keep these ministries running and further our visions for evangelism.  We host tens of thousands of web pages to lead people to the Lord.  Frequently, we make new ones and they are used to bring more and more people into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ.
