Hello!
I hope you had a great weekend.
Next week, we'll begin sending our emails in html format. We've been catering to the primitive email companies by sending our messages in plain text. However, most ISPs and even free companies like Hotmail (not Yahoo) allow html messages and they look much nicer. We even have a handy navigation bar above each email (that requires html) that you can use to navigate every part of the devotional message!
If you get next week's message and it doesn't look right, it could mean you need an email account that accepts html messages and you may need to create a free Hotmail account to receive the new, html devotions. However, if you have to get a new address, it will be worth it! The new messages will look much better and have many more options than the current ones. Nearly all of the other ministries and newsletters have gone to html formatting and our email sending service allows it, so we must take advantage of this feature, now. I hope this doesn't inconvenience anyone, but please let us know if it does and we'll see what we can do.
Did you hear President George W. Bush's State of the Union address? Last week, he gave an awesome speech. His agenda sounded like he was reading from the Bible! Among his points and remarks, he encouraged giving aid and jobs to the released prisoners, helping the poor, avoiding pre-marital sex, codifying marriage as a covenant between a man and woman (only), etc. If you'd like to read the transcript, then please go here: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/01/20040120-7.html.
Josh McDowell came and spoke to Shadow Mountain Community Church on Thursday night. His three hour seminar was excellent. The quotes below and even the devotion for the week were inspired by his seminar. I hope you enjoy them. If you'd like to see Josh's new web site and ministry to kids and parents, please surf here: http://mycrossculture.com.
Are you writing a book and need some creative or theological input? Do you need an editor? If you answered yes to either of those questions, then email me and let me know. I'm happy to help and I'm looking for some additional book projects where I can serve as a co-author and/or editor.
JCSM is in the process of publishing three more books! These are paperback (not CD-ROM) books and they're called, "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained, 3rd Edition, The New Testament," "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained, 3rd Edition, The Old Testament," and "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained, The Collegiate Workbook." Please pray for these endeavors. They should be released soon!
A friend I used to know in high school is in jail and going to court again this week. Please pray for him. We have become pen pals and I've been encouraging him with the scriptures. I'm not sure if he is saved or not. He is facing murder charges, but says he is innocent. If he is found guilty, he may spend the rest of his life in jail. He is only 29 years old and will be a father, soon. Please pray for his family, his girlfriend, and his fetal son.
I pray that God blesses you richly this week. Seek Him and His kingdom first and He will make your paths straight.
This is your ministry, so please feel free to link to JCSM and forward these devotions to your friends and family. On JCSM, there are over 70,000 web pages of pictures, forums, midis, Bible lessons, humor, proverbial stories, links, devotions, poetry, prayer journals, and much more!
JCSM has encouraging sermons, exciting debates, and the Bible on MP3 online and you can freely stream and download them! Come and listen at http://sa.jcsm.org.
If you consider yourself either a theological scholar, a seeker, or a student of the Word, then you'll enjoy the Inerrancy Discussion Board. It's the #1 place for discussing the inerrancy of God's Word! Come and see: http://www.inerrancy.com (the Inerrancy Discussion Board is sponsored and administrated by JCSM).
Would you like to support God’s work on the web? If this ministry has touched you in a special way, please pray and consider sending a gift to JCSM. You can join us in our vision to reach people on the web with the good news! Either email me for more information or simply go here: http://vision.jcsm.org.

JCSM's Weekly Devotions (click here to
listen!) Psalm 119:11 "Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin
against You." John 8:32 "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you
free." John 13:34, 35 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one
another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all
will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." 2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new
creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." Hebrews 4:12 "For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper
than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and
of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the
heart." Insight: It has been said that embracing Christ isn't turning over a
new leaf. It's starting a new life. How has the truth effected you?
The truth of God's Word should be effecting us in a mighty way; in such a
powerful way that it changes us and causes us to live holier lives that edify
others and shine Christ's light into the world. Prayer: "Bless us, Lord. Help the truth of You to effect
us. Thank you for loving us so much. Help us to understand You and
your ways. Thank you for giving us great things. Help us to use them
for your glory. Let the truth of your Word effect us in a powerful way, so
that it changes our lives forever and overflows from us into the lives of
others. Help us to be genuine believers. Help us to see You as You
really are. We love You, Lord and we pray this in Jesus' name, Amen." John Sherman (1823-1900), was a U.S. Congressman, 1855-61, a U.S. Senator,
1861-77 and again 1881-97, as well as the Secretary of the Treasury under
President Hayes, 1877-81, and the Secretary of the State under President
McKinley, 1897-98. John Sherman was the younger brother of Union General
William Tecumseh Sherman of Civil War fame. John Sherman is noted for having
introduced the Sherman Anti-Trust Act, 1879, in an effort to curb the monopolies
of big businesses. He stated: "I appreciate the Holy Bible as the highest gift of God to man, unless it be
the 'unspeakable Gift' of Jesus Christ as the Saviour of the world. It is the
Divine assurance that our life does not end with death, and it is the strongest
incentive to honorable, charitable Christian deeds." - Stephen Abbott Northrop,
D.D., A Cloud of Witnesses (Portland, OR: American Heritage Ministries, 1987),
p. 409. How does the truth effect your relationships with others? If someone is happy, be happy with them. There are some people who refuse to rejoice when their friends or family is
rejoicing. Apparently, they are too caught up in their own problems or
feelings and they miss an important commandment. The Word tells us to
rejoice with those that are rejoicing and mourn with those that are mourning. The next time you see someone rejoicing, take that opportunity to rejoice
with them! God bless you as you meet this week's challenge. mathaytes (Greek): disciple - learner, pupil
The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected
and Explained "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims: Genesis 7:2-3 - In these verses the "clean
beasts" and fowls go into the ark by sevens, but 6:20 and 7:8-9 say that only
two of the fowls and "clean beasts" entered the ark. "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained"
responds: Noah was instructed to bring
additional clean animals for the post-flood food and sacrifice. (This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible:
Corrected and Explained", by Jason Gastrich. This book is on CD and
explains over 3,000 difficulties regarding the entire Bible at
http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org.) What a person does generally reflects what they believe. Be concerned about what our children believe. Christianity is based on the truth. Today, only 9% of Christian youth believe there is absolute truth. A problem well defined is half solved. You can't separate truth from the effect it needs to have on your life. We must build loving, intimate connections with our kids. Truth without relationships equals rejection. Worldly people think truth is created and if something works, then it is
true. Christians acknowledge that if something is true, then it will work. From the moment a child is born, he/she needs relationships. You need to model the truth to your children or they may reject it. Know what and why you believe. Faith doesn't create truth. It responds to it. How does the truth effect your relationships with others? God takes the initiative in loving us before we love Him. There were 333 Old Testament prophecies fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Only the Messiah was referred to as the Seed of the woman. You're never too old to start where you are and approach God. When we affirm a child's worth, we give them a sense of authenticity. If someone is happy, be happy with them. Unconditional acceptance gives a person security. Most kids feel that their relationship with their parents is on a performance
basis. Acknowledge a child's being first, effort second, and success third. The more secure a child becomes, the more vulnerable and transparent they
will become. When we express appreciation to a child, it gives them a sense of
significance. Catch people doing things right and show them appreciation. When we are available to our loved ones, it tells them they are important. When we show affection to our children, it gives them a sense of lovability. The number one reason girls become sexually involved is because they don't
receive their father's love and they seek it in another man. Love your kids. Give your kids appropriate, physical touch. Until you know that someone loves you unconditionally, you won't feel free to
fail. Treat your kids in a way that will compel them to say, "There was never a
moment when my Dad/Mom didn't love me." Approach your child's world and it will show you are interested in what they
care about. Give our children reasonable limits and boundaries and hold them accountable. Accountability gives children a sense of responsibility. When our culture contradicts the Bible, what do you do? Don't put off positive changes. Adam recognized Eve as a compatible helper that would aid him in fulfilling
God's purpose for Him. Don't pick a mate that won't walk with God with you. We can't even imagine how exciting our heavenly oneness with God will be. If you are showing a false sense of yourself, then you are deceiving people. People don't complete people. God completes people. There is a peace and a joy that God gives and a spouse can never match or
replace it. I can't be the best I can be without Christ. God takes your life to another level. When a man finds and marries a woman, his role is to identify a compatible
mate, leave his parents and family, and cleave to his wife forever. Sex is shameless oneness. Guilt is saying you did something wrong. Shame is saying you are something wrong. True intimacy is sharing the real you. Oneness results from a union with your spouse, but wholeness and completeness
results from a union with Jesus Christ. These quotes came from God, me, Josh McDowell, and Miles McPhearson. Do you need more quotes? We have thousands in our archives! They
are located here:
http://quotes.jcsm.org. These quotes can be used for sanctification and fun. Most of them are
directly based on scripture and scriptural principles. Some of the quotes are
humorous or rhetorical, others are written from sermons and Bible studies, and
some
are lyrics from songs. If you’d like me to go into more detail on any of them,
please email me. Like most verses in the Bible, they can be debated. To use what I’ve written
in the most beneficial way, try and trace them back to the scriptures and apply
the true principles to your life in a meaningful way! Please don’t sell my
quotes or publish them for profit. If English is not your first language, you
may not understand some of the quotes. I'm sorry, but some of them are English
metaphors and deal with multiple word meanings. God bless you all! Please make a commitment to pray for this ministry. As every believer is
tempted and tried, this ministry faces trials also. God has blessed me, JCSM and
the people who have been reached! Unfortunately, the enemy knows this and
spiritual warfare is the result. Please at least pray that the devotions
continue to be written religiously, the web pages stay on the www and the
readers are blessed, sanctified and protected from evil. Thank you very much
in advance! Do you want to help people receive the good news? We’re
reaching new people every day with God’s awesome Word! If God has blessed you
and you wish to send a love offering to JCSM, please send your gift to the
address below. You can join our vision and help this ministry! Your donations will keep
these ministries running and further our visions for evangelism. Hundreds of web
pages have been created to lead people to the Lord. Frequently, we make new ones
and they are used to bring more and more people into a closer relationship with
Jesus Christ. We’re certain there will be more ways to reach people in the
future. JCSM is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization. If you wish to contact us in the mail or send support, please make checks
