10. If you have a large hard drive with lots of free space, tell Windows to use as much of it as possible as RAM.  This will speed up your computer.

9. Defragment your computer.  It may take an hour or so, but it's worth it.  It'll make it run better and quicker.

8. Get a virus scanning program and use it.  It sure is comforting to have it scan downloaded files before opening them.  There are many free ones that you can use (e.g. Avast).

7. Get Trillian instead of several, individual instant messaging programs.  Trillian is free and it utilizes AIM, YIM, MSN, ICQ, and IRC in one easy-to-use program.

6. Make a customized home page with Google, MSN Live, Yahoo, Hotmail, or another web-based company.  This will help you get all of your local and national news, see your local weather, keep track of your fantasy sports teams, and much more.

5. Put some internet shortcuts on your desktop.  Copy the url, then right click your desktop.  Choose New, then Shortcut.  Paste the url and name the link and you're done.

4. Create an html file for your desktop called Links.  Put all kinds of internet links and shortcuts in it.  You can use it as a Favorites that's much easier to find and utilize.

3. When you search for keywords in a search engine, you can put them in quotes to search for the exact phrase.  For instance, searching for Connor Jackson brings up over 11 million pages, but searching for "Connor Jackson" brings up just 927 pages.  It narrows the search to the exact phrase.

2. Use print screen (e.g. the Prt Scr button) to take a picture of your screen.  After you do this, open a picture viewer and choose File, then paste and you can save it.

1. Use alt-tab to search through your open windows.  This is an easy way to thumb through your windows without having to use your mouse.
